Strays & Surrenders
Strays & Surrenders
Thank you for visiting our Strays & Surrenders page and for advocating for an animal in need. We understand that reaching out for help is not always easy, and we appreciate you taking the time to explore responsible next steps.
RARE is a foster-based rescue, and it is not guaranteed that we have a foster home available at any given time. Foster homes must be secured before we are able to move forward with intake. Without an available and appropriate foster placement, we do not have the ability to bring an animal into our program.
If you have found a stray or need to surrender an animal, we may be able to help, but intake is entirely dependent on foster availability, fit, and safety considerations.
If you are willing to serve as the foster home, we may be able to accept the animal into our program, begin vetting, and actively work toward finding a qualified adopter. Intake is not guaranteed and is dependent upon a full assessment of the animal and your specific situation.

Photos & Video Requirements
The rescue and shelter community is currently overwhelmed with owner surrenders and abandoned animals. Clear, high-quality photos and video are essential in helping an animal stand out and increasing the chances of placement.
To move forward with any review, we require:
• At least 5 clear, well-lit photos of each animal
• A minimum 20-second clear video
Photos should include:
– A full-body standing photo
– A clear face photo (looking at the camera lens)
– A side profile photo
– If the animal is small enough, one photo of the animal held or next to a person to show size
The video should showcase personality and temperament — affection, energy level, responsiveness, body language, and overall demeanor.
Strong visual content significantly increases the likelihood of finding a foster, adopter, or rescue partner. With so many animals in need, clear media helps us advocate effectively and responsibly.
Please note that submitting photos and video does not guarantee intake or placement, and we cannot guarantee a specific timeframe for response or availability.
We will carefully review all submissions and do our best to help where we are able.
