Adoption Process

Details about adopting from RARE.

Rescued Animals

RARE's mission is primarily focused on rural communities in northwest and middle Tennessee without animal shelters or with small municipal animal control facilities that euthanize for space and/or time. Our primary foster and adopter base is in the Greater Nashville area of Middle Tennessee.

Adoption Fees

Adoption fees help to provide the rescue, vetting and care. They also help to cover heartworm treatments and other treatable ailments that many animals need in order to be available for adoption. *Adoption fees vary by animal, please check each animal profile for their specific fee.

Rural Animal Rescue Effort is a 501c3 Non-Profit organization. Because of this, RARE relies on adoption fees and donations.

Responsible Pet Parenting

Understand that adopting an animal is a lifetime commitment to that animal and there will be veterinary expenses throughout their life. For instance, annual checkups, preventative care, and emergencies can often cost several hundreds, if not thousands of dollars (especially without pet insurance). Additionally, there will be expenses such as pet food, leash, collar, toys, and other items.

Refunds of Adoption Fees

In the event of a return with the 30-day trial period, the adoption fee will be either considered a donation, transferred to another adoptable or half of the adoption fee is refunded upon request. After the 30-day trial period, the adoption fee is not refundable.
