Max, formerly known as Matisse from our Artist Litter, has had quite the journey. He and his siblings were found last year as tiny puppies, huddled in a rural ditch—scared, starving, and desperately needing help. Once rescued, Max was adopted by his foster family, but despite everyone's best intentions, he struggled with fear of people approaching the fenced yard. He felt he had to protect himself and the family he loved.
Unfortunately, an older child began teasing him through the fence, and Max eventually reacted out of fear and bit him through the fence. We don't blame Max—he was scared and trying to keep himself safe—but this incident cost him his home. Still, we believe that everything happens for a reason, and Max's story was far from over.
Our President, Trisha, took him in and fostered him for almost seven months, helping him rebuild trust and confidence. Then, on November 8th, everything changed. We partnered with Music City CrossFit and Fit & Faith for a shared Doggy Daycation event, where Max met a Fit & Faith/CrossFit event participant he connected with instantly. Max even wrapped his paws around him in the sweetest hug—and held on! It was absolutely adorable.
Although this man wasn't planning to adopt at the time, he felt something special with Max. He took one of our brochures, and the very next day, he submitted an adoption application! Max began his trial that Friday... and now he is officially adopted!
His new dad has already taken him on adventures—including the Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day! Max now gets the one-on-one attention he's always craved, and he continues to grow braver and more confident each day.
We couldn't be more thrilled for this incredible boy.
This adoption is truly something to be thankful for. 🧡🐾
