Meet Hawkins!
 

Hawkins is the kind of dog who doesn't just want to be your dog—he wants to be your BEST FRIEND. And honestly, he's pretty hard to resist.

 

This absolutely gorgeous Husky is around 1½–2 years old, 51 pounds, and the perfect medium size. He has one stunning blue eye and one amazing “party eye”—part blue and part brown. He's strikingly handsome, but it's his personality that will really steal your heart.

 

If you're an early riser, you may be Hawkins' perfect match. He loves sleeping with his people, and if you're still in bed around 6:30 a.m., he'll gently start nudging you with his nose to let you know that he's ready to go outside for a potty break and breakfast. And if you're up for a morning walk, even better—Hawkins would absolutely love to start his day with you!

 

But here's something that might surprise you about this Husky: he is incredibly chill in the house.

 

If you work from home, Hawkins will happily lay on the floor at your feet or right beside you while you work. He doesn't need constant entertainment or attention. He just wants to be near his person. He is house-trained, doesn't chew things he shouldn't, and is a genuinely wonderful house dog when his people are home.

 

And despite being a Husky, his foster mom says he actually doesn't shed nearly as much as you'd expect! In fact, her other dogs and even her cat shed more than Hawkins does. 😂

 

Outside, however, Hawkins' Husky instincts definitely come out!

 

He enjoys running around the yard, exploring, and chasing squirrels and other critters. He has a strong prey drive outdoors that he doesn't typically display inside the house. Because of this, he should never be outside with cats or small dogs. He does wonderfully with the foster's cat INSIDE the home and actually loves hanging out with the cat, but outdoors that same cat can trigger his prey drive. He may try to chase and catch small animals and could accidentally seriously injure them in the process.

 

For that reason, Hawkins absolutely needs a securely fenced yard. A home with a covered porch or another safe, comfortable outdoor area would be ideal so he can enjoy being outside when his person isn't home. His foster mom has created a setup where Hawkins can relax on the covered porch in the fenced yard while she's away, complete with ice-cube water on hot days—and he does great with it.

 

Even better would be a temperature-controlled room with a doggy door leading to the fenced yard. That would be a dream setup for this boy!

 

Hawkins has also been wonderful with the children he's met. However, because he can become frightened by the unpredictable movements, chasing, screaming, and general chaos of very young children, we recommend a home with children around 8 years old or older who can interact with him calmly and respectfully.

 

There is one other important thing his future family needs to understand: Hawkins does not like being crated. When left alone inside without access to his people, he can become bored and stressed, which can occasionally result in chewing or a stress accident. This isn't something we necessarily consider classic separation anxiety—it seems much more related to boredom and not knowing what to do with himself when his people aren't home.

 

When his people ARE home, though? He's an angel. 💙

 

He is affectionate, loyal, house-trained, well-behaved, playful when he wants to be, and happiest simply being wherever his person is. He wants to sleep with you, hang out beside you while you work, go for walks with you, and then settle down and relax with you.

 

Hawkins is looking for someone who understands that being his person means being his whole world. He doesn't need someone who is constantly on the go. He needs someone who wants a companion who will be right there beside them—whether they're heading out for a morning walk, working at their desk, relaxing on the couch, or enjoying some time in the backyard.

 

He's a Husky with the beauty you'd expect, the occasional Husky zoomies you'd expect, and prey-drive instincts you'll need to manage—but inside the house, he's surprisingly calm, affectionate, and incredibly easy to live with.
