Meet Dex, a 2.5-year-old Border Collie weighing 58 pounds who is equal parts handsome, affectionate, and wonderfully goofy 💙

Even before coming into foster, Dex showed just how loving he is. At the shelter, he formed a special bond with a young puppy named Navi. Dex cared about him so much that he actually climbed over the fence separating them just to comfort him and cuddle beside him. That story says so much about who Dex is: gentle, loyal, and happiest when he has someone to love.

Now, he is thriving in a foster home with other dogs and continues to show how easy he is to adore. He is wonderful with kids, social with other dogs, and always ready to make you laugh. He may not be able to catch a tennis ball to save his life, but that has never stopped him from loving them with his whole heart!

Dex is:
• Great with other dogs
• Wonderful with kids
• Silly, playful, and full of personality
• Incredibly quick with puzzles
• A big fan of tennis balls, even if catching them is still a work in progress
• Affectionate, cuddly, and happiest near his people

Dex will need:
• Continued exercise and enrichment for his clever Border Collie brain
• A family willing to keep working with him on leash manners
• Plenty of toys, puzzles, and playtime
• Lots of affection and a cozy spot for cuddling

He recently did great on a walk and was very responsive to the leash, although he has one very funny habit: he likes to walk between your legs whenever he gets the chance.

Dex is smart, social, loving, and endlessly entertaining. He has everything it takes to make an incredible family dog and is ready to find the people who will love every goofy thing about him.

Steps To Adopt

Read the adoptable’s bio above, including their adoption fee Go to RARErescue.org and read our ADOPTION PROCESS page under the "Adopt" section Complete the DOG ADOPTION INTEREST FORM (located on our website RARErescue.org) We understand that it is important to you to find the right fit for your family. We feel the same way! The DOG ADOPTION INTEREST FORM is important and REQUIRED for this reason. All of our Adoptables are:Spayed/neutered; Up to date on vaccines; Heartworm tested if six months or older (& kept on heartworm preventative and treated for heartworms if positive when entering our program): Microchipped prior to adoptionBREEDS: We are not breed experts. The breed(s) listed for each adoptable are best guesses or suggestions.PLEASE NOTE: We are a non-profit organization without municipal or government funding. Veterinary/Medical expenses are constant for an animal rescue. Our adoption fees not only help to provide vetting and care for the animal being adopted, but they also help to cover heartworm treatments and other treatable ailments that many animals, that would otherwise be euthanized, need in order to be made available for adoption. Please understand that adopting an animal is a LIFETIME COMMITMENT to that animal and there will be veterinary expenses throughout their life that can often cost several hundreds, if not thousands of dollars (without pet insurance), especially without annual checkups and preventative care. As a potential family for this pet you are responsible for their safety and that includes keeping them on your property.***If you are not in the middle Tennessee area, transport can potentially be arranged to approved homes, depending on distance and local adaptability. We normally do not allow adoptions outside of 1.5 hours driving distance.
